Special note: Because the application runs in such a small space (inside gmail), Flash Player by default does not pop up a security notification window for you to allow your microphone to be used for the application.
Please "Right-Click" on the flash object below and then click on "Settings" once the box pops up make sure "Allow" is checked as well as "Remember"
What's the potential? Google apps has gained alot of popularity among small businesses and universities. Just read the quote from a CNET news article:
"Since early this year Google has been touting 500,000 active business customers, primarily small businesses, using at least one of the Google Apps, and more than 10 million active users. In addition, thousands of universities, with more than one million active users, are using Google Apps, the company said. So far, Google's biggest wins are Valeo, a leading automotive suppliers, with 32,000 users, and the District of Columbia, with 38,000 employees." September 3, 2008
What's the cost? MailFone will have a very minimal cost per user model announced shortly, that will allow users and businesses to add phone capabilities right inside of their gmail client. Other features such as voicemail, voicemail transcriptions, group messaging will be added as well to enhance the overall service offering to small businesses.
Installation Instructions
Log into Gmail and click on Settings
Then click on the "Labs" tab
Scroll all the way to the bottom on the Labs Tab till you see the Gadget Extension. Make sure it's enabled, if not click on "Enable"
Once you do that it will reload Gmail and you should have a new tab in the Settings view called "Gadgets" Click on it.
Type in http://www.joedeveloper.net/ribbit/mailFone.xml into the box and press "Add"
Gmail will reload again and you will have the gadget in your email. You will need to drag and drop it up to the top if you want it to be visible at all times like it is in the screenshot below.
